A cozy and heartwarming stir-fry dish featuring tender beef and vibrant broccoli, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak (or skirt steak)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock (or beef stock)
  • 2 tablespoons Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dark soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar (or white sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (for the sauce)
  • 1 head broccoli (cut into bite-sized florets)
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 2 teaspoons ginger (minced)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef: Thinly slice the beef against the grain into thin strips. Marinate it with soy sauce, peanut oil, cornstarch, and optional baking soda for 15-30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Sauce: Whisk together chicken stock, Shaoxing wine, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, brown sugar, and cornstarch in a bowl.
  3. Sauté the Vegetables: Heat oil in a pan, add garlic and ginger, and sauté for 30 seconds. Add broccoli and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Cook the Beef: Increase heat and add marinated beef, cooking until browned (3-4 minutes). Avoid overcrowding the pan.
  5. Return the broccoli and add the sauce, stir-fry until the sauce thickens and coats everything (1-2 minutes).
  6. Serve! Plate your beef and broccoli, garnishing with sesame seeds or scallions, and enjoy hot!

Notes

Serve with steamed jasmine rice or noodles to soak up the rich sauce. Feel free to adjust ingredients and experiment with flavors as desired.
