Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes

A hearty twist on classic Sloppy Joes with Cajun flavors, perfect for weeknight dinners or get-togethers.

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 brioche buns
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Sauté the vegetables by heating 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and bell pepper, sauté for about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and sauté for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Brown the ground chicken in the skillet, breaking it into small pieces, and let it cook for about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Season the mixture with 2 tablespoons of Cajun seasoning, stirring well to coat.
  5. Add the tomato sauce and Worcestershire sauce, mix well, and let it simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  6. Taste the mixture and adjust flavors with salt and pepper as needed.
  7. Toast the brioche buns by slicing them in half and lightly buttering the cut sides.
  8. Assemble the Sloppy Joes by spooning the chicken mixture onto toasted buns and topping with shredded cheese.

Notes

For a spicy kick, add diced jalapeños to the vegetable mix. Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to three days.
