Egg Roll in a Bowl

A cozy dish that combines the flavors of traditional egg rolls without the fuss, featuring savory meat and crunchy coleslaw.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground pork (or beef/chicken)
  • 4 cups coleslaw mix
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the pan by heating a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Cook the meat by adding ground pork (or chosen meat) to the hot pan, breaking it up and stirring frequently until golden brown—about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Sauté the aromatics by pushing the meat to one side and adding sesame oil, garlic, and ginger for about a minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the coleslaw mix and allow it to wilt for 2-3 minutes while maintaining some crunch.
  5. Season with soy sauce, mixing well, and adjust with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve by removing from heat and plating directly in bowls or over rice or cauliflower rice.

Notes

This dish is adaptable; try it with tofu for a vegetarian option or add spices for a kick.
