Italian Sub Pasta Bake

A comforting and hearty pasta bake inspired by Italian subs, featuring layers of salami, mozzarella, and marinara.

  • 1 pound pasta (penne or rotini)
  • 8 ounces salami, sliced
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the pasta in salted boiling water until al dente, about 2 minutes less than the package instructions.
  3. Prepare the salami by sautéing it in olive oil over medium heat for 3-4 minutes until crispy.
  4. Mix the marinara sauce and Italian seasoning into the skillet, then combine it with the cooked pasta and crispy salami.
  5. Assemble the bake in a greased 9×13 inch dish, layering half of the pasta mixture with half of the mozzarella, then topping with the remaining pasta and cheese.
  6. Bake covered with foil for 25 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  7. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Notes

This dish can be prepared ahead and refrigerated for up to 24 hours; increase baking time if starting from cold. Leftovers can be frozen for up to 3 months.
